Week 1

Introduction to professional change management

We dive into the fascinating world of change psychology and our natural resistance to adaptive behavior. Leaders and managers will gain a deep understanding of why people don’t always just “get with the program”, and how to avoid making common mistakes that sabotage change initiatives. Week 1 covers:

  • Understanding negativity bias, and how to deal with it
  • Top mistakes leaders make that sabotage change initiatives – and how to avoid them
  • Alignment around the step-by-step Cycle of Change we go through when experiencing significant change
Week 2

Preparing for change

Most of the real work in change management happens before the change. In this session you’ll learn how to plan out a change roadmap that leads to success.

  • The hidden hazards of rushing change initiatives
  • How to plan for objections, risks, training needs, and resistance
  • Enlisting change management champions
Week 3

Announcing change

How you announce change can lead to or prevent resistance. Here, we learn best practices around announcing different types of change.

  • How to announce important “everyday” change – new processes, procedures, role responsibilities, etc.
  • How to announce significant change – change that will significantly have an impact on employees
  • How to announce difficult change – changes that will most likely not be perceived as positive
Week 4

Supporting and reinforcing change

In this session, you’ll focus on getting people moving, building momentum, supporting lasting change, and working with resistance. We’ll learn:

  • How to build momentum and excitement around change to get the “herd” moving
  • Step-by-step models for supporting change and holding people accountable
  • How to work with late adopters and diehard resisters
Week 5

Final project presentations & graduation

We will review the key themes of the sessions and students will give a short “executive level” presentation about a project they’ve been planning. We’ll then celebrate!

Reunion

A reunion session will be held after 3 months.
