The average person sends and receives over 115 email messages a day. It’s become an integral part of daily life – yet the actual technology has evolved faster than the rules and etiquette surrounding it. As a result, many of us are not using this tool to its fullest potential.
Want to get ahead of the game? Then you need a strategy: Point, Set, Match!
First, know the point, or the goal, of your email. Plan your message before beginning to write. Answer the question, “What do I want my audience to know, think, and/or do by the end of my message?”
Set yourself up for success by making your email clear and informative. Bottom line your message in the first sentence or two. Think about how many emails your readers get every day. Make your message stand out by giving them the important information first.
Match your subject line to your reader's interests or actions. Subject lines are the first thing readers see. Summarize the body of the email in a few words – and tell the reader what you want them to do. A smart subject line will maximize the effectiveness of your email communication.
These topics, and more, are part of our Get Results: Business Writing that Drives Action Webinar – two hours of tools that will change the way you write and use email.
