WELCOME TO THE PALM OS EMULATOR (POSE)!

The Palm OS Emulator is provided courtesy of Palm Computing, Inc.
It's a desktop application that creates a virtual Palm device on
the screen, making it easy for you to try features, install and
test software, and even experiment with using a Palm computer in
other languages.

***** VERY IMPORTANT: *****
The Emulator itself is just the desktop portion; it requires the 
actual ROM code from a genuine Palm device. On the "PalmPilot: the
Ultimate Guide" CD, you'll find TEN different ROM files, representing
the "brains" from several Palm OS versions and languages.

To use the Emulator:

1. Double-click the Emulator icon. A dialog box appears; click New 
   to begin a new session.

2. In the next dialog box, you'll be asked which Palm model you'd 
   like to emulate, and how much "RAM" you'd like it to have. 

***** HERE'S THE KEY STEP: *****
3. Click Browse to open one of the provided ROM images. Navigate to
   the ROM folder, and open the appropriate one.

IMPORTANT: Make sure the OS version matches the kind of Palm device 
you've selected. For example, if you want a virtual Palm III device, 
use a 3.0 ROM version. To emulate a Palm V or Palm IIIx device, use a 
3.1 ROM. 

Once you're running POSE, you can also download your own real-world
Palm device's ROM. Right-click the screen of your virtual Palm device
and use the Transfer ROM command. You'll be given full instructions.

And while you're using the right-click trick, don't miss the commands 
for installing new Palm applications onto your virtual palmtop!

Meanwhile, you can type on the PC keyboard (instead of using Graffiti),
click the "plastic" buttons, tap the "screen" with your mouse clicks,
and so on.

To quit the Emulator:

Right-click the screen and choose Exit.

POSE comes with a full user guide (Guide.html). You may note that it's
heavily geared toward programmers, since that's the target audience for
POSE. Still, there's lots of great information there.
