Women now account for over 46% of the total U.S. labor force, up from 29.6 % in 1950. In 2000, 4 out of 500 Fortune companies had female CEO’s. As of May, 2011 the number increased to 12, down from 15 in 2010. Top female executives earn on average 68 cents for every dollar a male executive earns.
